Terms of Service for Howler

Last updated: September 17, 2026

By using Howler you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not sign in.

What Howler is

Howler lets rugby league fans call bunker reviews and captain's challenges as they happen, see how the crowd answered, and argue about it afterwards.

Howler has no connection to the National Rugby League, the Rugby League World Cup, or any club or nation shown in it. Club and national crests, names and colours belong to those organisations. Fixtures, decisions and results are entered by us and may be wrong.

Nothing in Howler is a betting product. The crowd's split on a decision is what other fans thought, recorded after the fact. It is not a market, not a prediction, and not advice.

Your account

You sign in with an email address. There is no password — we send you a one-time code — so anyone with access to your inbox has access to your account. Keep it secure.

You choose a display name. It is shown beside everything you say, so choose something you are content for other fans to see. Do not choose something designed to impersonate somebody else.

One person, one account. Do not share it.

You must be 18 or over to use Howler. This is not a formality. Howler is a place where adults talk to each other about a game, in public threads and in private groups, and we are not willing to put children in that room. If you are under 18, do not sign in.

What you write

You own what you write. By posting it you give us permission to show it in the app to the people it is meant for — everybody, for a comment on a match; your group, for a group message.

Comments on a match are public. Every user of Howler can read them, with your display name and your team beside them. Write accordingly.

You are responsible for what you post. Do not post anything that is:

It is a game. Referees and players are people. So is the fan who disagrees with you.

Moderation

We can hide a comment, stop you commenting for a period, or stop you commenting permanently. We can do it without warning if what you posted warrants it.

A hidden comment is hidden, not deleted. We keep a record of what was posted, when, and who hid it.

You can delete your own comments. Nobody else can — not even the owner of your group, whose authority is over who is in the group rather than over what its members said.

If you think a moderation decision was wrong, write to us.

Groups

A group is a private room for a handful of fans. Whoever creates it decides who is invited, who stays, and whether it continues to exist.

If the owner deletes the group, it goes, and every message in it goes with it. Anyone can leave a group they are in. The owner cannot leave their own — their way out is to delete it — and ownership cannot be transferred.

You can turn off group invitations in your profile at any time. Turning them off stops new invitations; it does not withdraw ones already sent.

Advertising

Howler shows advertisements. They are pictures placed on a screen and shown to everybody the same way. We do not target them, and an advertiser learns nothing about you.

An advertisement is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for what an advertiser sells you.

What we do not promise

Howler is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of bugs, and features will change over time.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of Howler.

Some rights cannot be excluded. In Australia, the Australian Consumer Law gives you guarantees that these terms do not affect and cannot take away.

Ending it

You can stop using Howler at any time, and delete your account from the profile screen.

If you own a group, delete the group first. We will not delete your account while you own one, because it would take the room and every message in it away from everybody else in it.

We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms.

Deleting your account does not automatically remove what you posted. See the privacy policy for what happens to it.

Changes

We will update these terms as Howler changes, and update the date at the top. Using the app after a change means accepting it. If a change is significant we will say so in the app.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia.
